Big Green Shock in Bangkok

Well I'm happy to report that normal service (with pictures ) can now be resumed.

I have to say that Bangkok International Airport is the model of how a modern airport should be. It is clean, efficient and a pleasure to speed through on the way to downtown Bangkok just 30 km away.

The first shock is the price of the taxi fare 30km accross town - just 7 English pounds or $14 for our American cousins, including toll fares of 3 GBP to use the superhighway which cuts a swathe through the busy eavening traffic.

The second shock is the fuel stop:

Yes for an ageing eco warrior like myself it gladened the heart to pull in at an all LPG fuelling station. Everything from 4x4s to mini vans to Mercedes limos were queing up to fill to the brim with cheap LPG.

It's around 8pm here and it takes an hour to get from the airport to the hotel. I chose the Viengtai Hotel which has the advantage of being just 100 yards from the legendary Kho San road. Money goes a long way here and a large double room including aircon and breahfast come in at just 24GBP per night.

Unfortunately I'm so dog tired that the best I can manage is to do a quick walk round the block, grab some dinner and crash out.

Stay tuned - Still to come: Using the Farce; Insects Anyone; 8 Bottles of Local Beer; 1 Day Sight Seeing in Bangkok.......and so much more - with pictures!

All the best MrC

Please stay away from the bars when you are dog tired Mikee, it's just like you to make "that" sort of mistake, for only ten dollars!

A pleasure to see one of the worlds highest polluters making an effort. Now if only continental Europe & the UK would do the damn same !!!
